Description

  • Makin' Music is all about motivating young children (0 to 3 years old) to love music, by performing for them and encouraging them to sing along, dance, play with sticks and drums, imitate hand motions, and the like.

  • Classes are performance-oriented.  You will spend most of the 45 minute class singing, playing guitar, dancing, and entertaining young children and their parents.

  • Classes run as 10 to 12 week sessions in the Fall, Winter, Spring, and Summer.

  • Classes held at the Music Training Center on Mondays through Saturdays, at 9:45 and 10:45 AM.

  • Teachers may teach 1 or more days per week, 2 or 3 classes per morning.

  • There are 2 teachers per class.  Teachers may need to meet off-line to rehearse as needed.

  • You are paid as a W-2 Employee, at a rate of $27.50 per 45-minute class.
You may also perform at parties and events at a rate of $50 per 45-minute performance.

Requirements

  • To teach Makin' Music, you must be proficient at acoustic guitar and singing (including harmonizing).  You do not need to be able to play "lead" guitar, but you must be entirely comfortable with open chords, common major/minor/7th bar chords, and able to play through chord changes without staring at your fingers!

  • Must be comfortable playing and singing while sitting on carpeted floor (chairs are not used), or while standing up with the guitar strapped on.  It is essential to sit on the floor to interact effectively with the children.

  • You must be committed to 100% reliable attendance.  This includes arriving at least 20 minutes early every day you are teaching, so that you can tune your guitar, organize class materials, and put out toys (balls, etc.) for early-arriving children to play with.

  • You must be willing to rehearse at home in between classes, so that you are fully prepared for every class.

  • Must be good at entertaining very young children - and their parents!

  • Must pass criminal background check.

Training

  • All new teachers are required to complete training sessions prior to the start of the paid teaching session
